Pieces of humanity

When at home you have guests
Dear people you have come to call friends,
Seated on couches and sofas talking laughing
Dreaming away, and you feel they don’t care,
You wonder whether it is only an impression
You wonder whether it is real, your senses
Calling for you to trust them, trust yourself
Do not be fooled by your wish to be wrong,
You hear their words, the subtle meaning
The reasons behind their chatter, their tone
Intonation speed hesitancy, pauses you feel
You see right through them, sense
The reverberations of their vibrations
You love them, you have chosen to, yet
That sour taste in your mouth compels you
To heed what your spirit tells you,
It is true they do not care for you as much
As you care for them, and in acceptance
You understand the silence of their souls
With tenderness you smile as they are you,
Pieces of humanity.
