OFF GUARD

Caught me by surprise
Sun had got me spoilt
Rushing through the traffic
Of bodies lost in boxes
Claxons city rumours
As the sky prepares the debut
Of its latest drama show
Threatens overture
In a thundering deep tune,
Pulling up grey curtains
Taken aback by striking spotlights
Lightning falls right by my side
And it pours, I find refuge in a bar
Playing my favourite songs
A mix of blues and reggae
A smile from sleepy bartender
Hiding yawns behind a beard
Volonteers to dry me I decline
While drops from heaven slither
Shivers down my spine
At my third coffee intermission
I reflect upon the pleasures
Of sometimes being caught,
Off guard.
